Reflection

First and foremost, I believe that in this stage of my academic career I have my own set of writing styles and organization patterns. I do not think that will really change much throughout the rest of my academic career. But, I do believe that this class has helped me think about writing in different ways by looking for deeper meanings and realizing theres much more to a paper than just words. Looking back at my first blog, I do believe my goals have somewhat been fulfilled. One in particular is preparing myself for those really long 8 page essays. I think I have learned to emphasize more on my ideas and positions and going more into detail than just stating it. It really has an effect when length is a key issue. Only if you are actually giving substantial ideas, not just filler.

In some ways, I want peer review to be a big help for myself and my writing. This is what part of the class I expected to be the most helpful. Considering the feedback I received, I either 1. wrote a close to perfect essay, or 2. was given feedback from someone who did not care much for peer review at all. I'm almost certain it was the second. Well, whatever the case, it is what it is.

As of right now, the class is very well organized and taught. I really enjoy the blogs, and how well you explain everything. I aslo like the seriousness, and that it can funny too.

My writing has not changed. It is exactly the way it was since the beginning of the semester.

To some extent, I do believe my writing has improved from one way or another. I believe everyday you write your writing will improve. 

Analyzing an ad

Purpose - The purpose of my ad is to lure in a younger audience, particularly younger girls, to entrust in their brand as it provides top comfort, protection, and simplicity, compared to other tampon brands. Through textual evidence and evidence from the setting that is provided in the ad itself it is clear what the purpose is.

Audience - The audience targeted is younger women, especially those who are first starting to experience menstruation  . The ethnicity does not really matter. The text says "great for first timers" and there are two little girls in the ad.

Genre -  I don't understand what you mean by genre.

Tone - I suppose the tone would be described as serious, but lively at the same time. This would make the audience feel as if the advertiser is serious, but since it is set for a younger audience,  they would want to relate by having a lively tone as well.

What makes a paper a good one!

The first thing that I found was most important in writing a good paper is quality. For one, a good paper must consist of full explanations of whatever it is your writing about. You need to have substance and consistance throughout your paper. If you feel one way about something, then explain. You can not have the audience only read "I believe that the law should have a say when it comes to abortion." If that is how you feel then there should be at least list your reasons backing up your position.
The second most important thing a good paper should consist of is correct grammar and punctuation. No audience is going to take seriously a paper with "aint" or forgetting commas, or capital letters. A good papper has to show that you know what you are talking about without having to go back and read just to figure out what it is you were trying to say. Plus, it shows your irresponsible. Proofread!
The last thing a paper should have is time. Give your papers sometime to work on to fix it here and there. Doing your papers last minute definitely calls for a mediocre paper no matter how long it is. You always need to go back and revise. Revision is key.

The thing that is most difficult for me is time! I don't have any. Its difficult to attend school time and work at the same time. My problem is that procrastination is my best friend. He's always there for me.

Potential topics for literacy narrative!

The first potential topic for my literacy narrative pertained to the first time I remember learning to read in kindergarten. This topic would have been set-up to where it explained the first time I remember learned to read and write and how it was useful throughout my academic career. However, it does seem too general and a bit hazy. My second topic would have consisted of the paper I wrote in sixth grade. I was basically allowed to write freely, yet appropriately. It marked the day when I learned to write on my own, without using a thesaurus to fancy it up. Although this did have influence on my writing style, the paper itself, as I remember, would be too elementary to have a deep significance to me and perhaps my audience. My last topic includes my first, real, rhetorically analyzed paper in my junior year in high school. This definitely sparked an inspirational light in my writing style and proved I was able to begin writing at an advanced level. It also was a confidence booster.

English courses are a requirement throughout any college curriculum for obvious reasons. English applies to our daily lives, no matter what we're doing. We can be texting, emailing, speaking, or reading, in which we all need basic english skills. Learning to effectively speak, read and write is such a beneficial factor when it comes to being successful. These days, you can barely get anywhere without being at an advanced level of speaking, reading, and writing. Everything today requires you to at least have some intermediate knowledge of english. If we all expect successful lives with a successful and fulfilling career sometime in the near future, then we shouldn't think of English as merely being a requirement, it should be a privilege. Its an opportunity for college students to take advantage of and be happy to partake in.

My goals for this course consist of learning to write more effective papers, improve my speaking skills, and to prepare myself for the 10 page papers I will surely be getting within the next few years here at Neiu. Considering I am still undecided for my major, I am certain that whatever I choose I will get buried in papers and essays. 

So lets take english a little more serious, folks. Plus, if we don't pass, we have to retake it. Now we don't want that.
